Why should we supplement our equines?

Providing horses with good nutrition is essential for optimal growth and performance.

Our horses must receive adequate food that does not have excesses or deficiencies in the nutrients required, because these will affect their body and therefore their physiological state and / or their activity. The health of the horse and the ability to perform well, to grow and reproduce depends on the correct feeding in each of its physiological stages.

A balanced ration for them should provide adequate levels of energy, protein, vitamins, minerals and water. Their diet must be based on the needs, and the knowledge of the anatomical and physiological characteristics of the animal, a monogastric herbivore that has a small stomach, in which the blind and the colon act as a unit.

Thee basis of their diet is forage. However, soil fertility conditions in Colombia, especially in areas where horse breeding is carried out, usually present a nutritional deficit in vitamins and minerals.

In addition, stable horses’ feeding is restricted, reducing their consumption of fiber. These equines are supplied with controlled rations, based on fiber, water, concentrate (energy and protein), mineral and vitamin supplements and mineralized salt, but they are animals that go from feeding 18 hours to only 3 or 4 hours, not counting the high wear for their physiological states or activities that require high nutritional requirements.

Vitamins and minerals, 5 reasons that will tell us why they are necessary.

1. Minerals and vitamins enable numerous biochemical processes in the body, which allow everything to work properly.

2. They participate as essential cofactors in enzymatic reactions.

3. Their deficiency decreases productivity of the animal.

4. They are organic substances necessary for the maintenance of all bodily functions (growth, health, fertility, performance).

5. They are essential micronutrients that play a specific role, and which can not be performed by another.

Reasons that lead us to think that the costs of a mineral vitamin supplementation are low, compared to its multiple utility.

Adequate supplementation allows our equines greater use of food, energy production, longevity, endurance and recovery at work; as well as the strengthening of the immune system, reduction of skin, helmets and joints problems.

This is how we nourish champions, together.

Handling and care stables

It is not in the nature of a horse to remain in one place, so it defecates and urinates anywhere. Horses avoid grazing on areas where excrements are concentrated and do not like to get splashed when urinating. Hence, they often expect to be released to the paddock to urinate. The floor of the stables must allow drainage.
